Indian Navy's flagship aircraft carrier 'INS Viraat', which resembles a floating township after undergoing several re-fits, shows no signs of fatigue despite being one of world's oldest warships in commission. "The carrier's lifespan has improved considerably with the modernisation efforts undertaken by us over the years," the ship's Commanding Officer, Captain Girish Luthra, told reporters on board recently.
Except for the boiler room, which is almost the same when the carrier was built in the late 50s, other major components of the ship have undergone various changes, he said.
