Raytheon wins Stinger contract for South Korea's Apaches

AH-64E Apache LongbowRaytheon has been awarded a USD35 million contract to supply the air-to-air variant of its FIM-92 Stinger missile to South Korea for its new fleet of Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, the company announced on 31 March.

Processed through the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route, deliveries of the Stinger systems will begin in 2017, Raytheon said. The number of missiles to be delivered was not disclosed.

The South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced plans to buy 36 Apaches to fulfil its AH-X heavy attack helicopter requirement in April 2013, with a USD900 million contract finalised in August of the same year. Deliveries are scheduled for 2016-18.
