HMS Endurance to be towed back to Portsmouth

HMS EnduranceThe navy has revealed it is arranging for HMS Endurance to be towed back to Portsmouth on a barge.

The ice patrol vessel has been out of action since it suffered a major flood on December 16, and is currently in the Falkland Islands.

Hundreds of litres of icy water gushed into the ship's engine room when she was in the Strait of Magellan off Chile.

    The original article contains the text "'They need to answer questions about what is happening with her because it's going to cost taxpayers a lot of money".
    HMS Endurance is military hardware and may be subject to replacement.
