S. Korea strives in naval build-up following Cheonan sinking

CheonanThe South Korean Navy has beefed up the combat capabilities of its warships to counter rising threats from North Korea in the wake of a deadly torpedo attack that sank a corvette four years ago, military officials said Sunday.

The 1,200-ton navy ship called the Cheonan exploded and sank in the Yellow Sea on the night of March 26, 2010, killing 46 sailors.

A South Korean-led international investigation found that North Korea torpedoed the ship, though Pyongyang denied its involvement.
