Australia building warships


Australia has begun building air warfare destroyers and landing helicopter dock ships.

Australia’s naval shipbuilding sector is progressing rapidly in the size of warship it is capable of constructing, and the cornerstone of the naval shipbuilding program is the BAE Systems facility in Williamstown, with more than 500 employees.

Spanish navy designs were used for the AWD ships and their combat systems are adapted from those in use by the U.S. Navy, The Hobson Bay Leader reported Thursday.
