EU countries source of weapons used in Libya

Milan ATMEuropean and British arms companies supplied Libya with hundreds of millions of dollars worth of hardware, which is now being used to put down the revolt against Moammar Gadhafi's regime.

The European Union's latest arms control report, released in January, said member states issued licences for the sale of weapons and weapons systems valued at pounds $462 million to Libya in 2009 alone.

Britain issued licences for the sale of $33 million worth of small arms, ammunition, ordinance, aviation components, armoured and protective equipment and military electronics.
