The Peruvian Navy (Marina de Guerra del Peru/MGP) has placed a EUR3.4 million (USD4.7 million) order with Rheinmetall for two MASS (Multi Ammunition Softkill System) decoy systems for installation in two Aguirre-class (Lupo) frigates.According to Jane's sources in Lima, the MGP is upgrading at least six of its eight Carvajal-class (modified Lupo) and Aguirre-class frigates, incorporating a considerable quantity of locally developed technology.
However, funds are limited and only two of the ships – the contenders are believed to be BAP Aguirre, BAP Bolognesi and BAP Quiñones – will receive a comprehensive renewal of their sensor and weapon fits. The remaining vessels can expect limited upgrades for enhanced performance in certain areas.
