As Navy planners figure out how the fleet will take on its new job of providing ballistic-missile defense protection for Europe, they don’t have to look far for an example of what it could look like.The Norfolk, Va.-based destroyer Stout returned in early September from European Command’s first dedicated BMD deployment, in what could be an early model for the missions of tomorrow.
“I would think they would look kind of similar to what we did,” Cmdr. Mark Oberley, the Stout’s commanding officer, told Navy Times.
