WHAT'S UP AT WHITE SANDS: Missile combines Navy, Air Force technology

The Navy tested a new missile at White Sands Missile Range on June 24, expanding the Navy's already extensive air defense capabilities.

The Standard Missile 6 was launched from the Navy's Desert Ship complex at WSMR and successfully intercepted a target drone, destroying it with a direct hit.

The SM-6 uses an advanced fire control system to track and engage targets well beyond the line of sight of its launcher point.
