India govt mulls 1 bln usd Dassault fighter jet upgrade

India is poised to sign a 1 bln usd deal to upgrade its fleet of 50 Dassault Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft, after delays hit its new aircraft procurement programme, according to a report on aviation industry website flightglobal.com citing industry sources.

India plans sign a deal later this year and have the upgrades complete by 2012, according to the sources.

France's Dassault Aviation and India's Hindustan Aeronautics will lead the upgrade project, with Thales, Israel's Elbit Systems and India's Bharat Electronics acting as subcontractors, flightglobal.com said.
