Korea’s Air Force is taking a step closer to realizing its motto -- “Toward the Sky! Toward Space!” -- as the U.S. Air Force has decided to open aerospace courses to U.S. allies for the first time. The Korean Air Force said Monday it will select three to six officers every year from 2007 until 2011 to take the courses as a first step to realizing its goal of leaping into space.
For the first batch of selected officers, Maj. Park Su-ra, who is in charge of air defense and control at the Air Force Operations Command, will be sent to the Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi next June to take the courses. Veteran pilots Maj. Kim Gi-cheol (39) and Maj. Park Jong-ho (39), both with over 1,500 hours under their belt, will be sent to Hurlburt Field in Florida sometime next year.
