India: Navy forges 15-year plan for indigenous production

Mumbai: The Indian Navy has devised a 15-year indigenous plan in conjunction with Confederation of Indian Industries for production of naval equipment and systems to be fitted in newly-inducted ships and submarines, a navy official said.

Elaborating on the plan, Vice-Admiral Madanjeet Singh, Flag Officer, Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command on Wednesday said that work had also begun on indigenous production of building an aircraft carrier and Scorpion submarines. These plans had been approved by the government, Singh and Banmali Agarwal, Chairman, CII Maharashtra Council said at a seminar on 'Navy-Industry Convergence: Challenges and Opportunities' here, coinciding with the 270th anniversary of Mumbai's Naval Dockyard.
