Bulgaria Buys Modern Battleship

Bulgaria's Navy has bought a well-armed battleship compatible with NATO standards.

The frigate "Druzki" (Ex-Wandelaar) was purchased from Belgium for EUR 23 M, in the first step of the modernization of the Bulgarian army.

Defense Minister Veselin Bliznakov and the chief of the General Staff of Bulgarian Army Nikola Kolev will attend the ceremony of the ship's acquisition on Friday. Before that the two will speak with NATO's headquarters.

Bliznakov, Kolev and NATO Secretary general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer will discuss the delay of the army's modernization and the expansion of the Bulgarian military participation in NATO missions.
