Secrecy shrouds Ottawa's imminent $35-billion shipyard announcement

HMCS HalifaxCanada's long-suffering shipbuilders are expected to find out Wednesday how $35-billion in federal contracts will be divvied up.

The decision follows an arm's length selection process designed to limit not only political, but legal blowback from a cut-throat industry and job-starved provinces.

The three contenders include Nova Scotia's Halifax Shipyard, Seaspan Marine Corp. in British Columbia and the Davie Shipyard of Levis, Que.
