Samsung Thales Wins Fleet System Project

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has chosen Samsung Thales to develop weapons and radar systems for a new fleet of 2,300-ton frigates over the next five years, officials of the agency said Wednesday.

"On Sept. 29, we picked Samsung Thales to jointly develop radar and weapons systems for the project," said Moon Ki-jeong in charge of the agency's combat system development program.

South Korea plans to spend 156.4 billion won ($156 million) to develop weapons and radar systems for a new fleet of Ulsan-I warships to replace current aging frigates and patrol boats.
