Commons warning over the rising cost of Astute

A group of MPs has hit out at the escalating costs of Barrow’s nuclear submarines while the armed forces are stretched to the limit.

The House of Commons Defence Select Committee says there are serious staffing problems in the services, after five years of conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq.

And it points the finger for a lack of funds at an extra £500m pumped into the Astute programme in Barrow, and Type 45 destroyers BAE in Scotland since the start of 2006.
