Turkey and the United States have a signed a $1.78 billion contract for the sale to the Turkish Air Force of 30 advanced F-16 Block 50 fighter aircraft, designed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin, Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul announced in Ankara May 11.Delivery of this new batch of F-16s will begin in mid-2011 and be completed by the end of 2012, he said.
Turkey will buy the fighters under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales scheme.
