Indian Navy Plans To Expand Its Fleet To 200 Ships By 2027

Talwar class FFGThe Indian Navy is planning to increase its capability to 200-ship fleet from the existing 137 ships and submarines under its command by 2027.

According to a maritime capability perspective plan, a certain number of ships have to be built by a particular timeline. "Our aspiration is to become a 200-ship Navy (by 2027)", Vice Chief of Indian Navy Vice Admiral P Murugesan was quoted as saying by PTI today.

The Navy has been at the forefront of indigenisation, and is also in “exploratory talks” with Russia to see if few of them can be built with their collaboration so as to “expedite” the process.
