VVIP chopper deal: No change in ground situation in India, defence ministry says

AW 101 VVIP helicopterThe defence ministry on Wednesday said there is "no change in the ground situation here" as far as the VVIP helicopter case is concerned, even as it sought details from the Indian embassy in Rome about the "exact developments" in Italian court proceedings.

"We cancelled the contract, got back our money and have agreed for arbitration. There is no change in all this. We have, however, asked for a report from our embassy, through its lawyer, about the purported shelving of legal proceedings against Finmeccanica," said a MoD official.

The call on whether or not to blacklist the entire Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica, with all its different companies, or just its UK-based subsidiary AgustaWestland will be taken after CBI completes its probe into the bribery case.

  1. As a subsiduary of Finmeccanica,I doubt whether Westlands would have carried out any of the negotiations in regards to this contract. Surely it would have been done by the parent company.

    Then again this is the 'Times of India' reporting, not known for its accuracy. The same rag that thought one of the Carribean islands was part of Africa.
