Congress may shoot down MEADS missile program developed in Central New York


The U.S. Senate will vote this week on a $631 billion defense authorization bill for 2013 that might end a missile program that supported up to 235 jobs in Central New York.

President Barack Obama and the Pentagon asked Congress to include $400.8 million in the bill to finish development of the Medium Extended Air Defense System, or MEADS.

Lockheed Martin Corp. leads an international consortium with Germany and Italy that have been developing the mobile missile defense program for more than a decade.
