Langley AFB safe for now: Base closing plan stalled

A Missouri senator has blocked a military base-closing plan identical to one in 2005 that shuttered Fort Monroe in Hampton and threatened Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
Objections raised Wednesday by Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill mean that a new base realignment and closing commission, better known as BRAC, is likely grounded.
That is good news to the region and Hampton in particular: City officials feared Langley Air Force Base might be in the cross hairs this time.
