Massive power

Workers get to grips with a huge propeller for the first of the new aircraft carriers in construction for the Royal Navy.

Each ship will have two propellers, which together will be capable of generating 50,000 horsepower – enough to run 1,000 family cars or 50 high speed trains.

The nickel-aluminium-bronze propellers have been built by Rolls Royce in Sweden, where this photo was taken.
