Taiwan's armed forces will hold a large-scale joint air defense missile test-firing drill Tuesday at the tightly guarded Jiupeng military base in Pingtung County in southern Taiwan.President Ma Ying-jeou will be on hand to watch the military exercise, which will be open to the media for the first time in eight years.
As the drill comes on the same day of Chinese President Hu Jintao's departure for a state visit to the United States and closely follows China's first-known test flight of its radar-eluding stealth fighter J-20, the missile tests have drawn considerable attention locally.
