Campaigners called on the government today to "come clean" over its spending plans for Trident replacement before the publication of its Main Gate report. The call follows a Ministry of Defence response to a Freedom of Information request by environmental group Greenpeace which suggested that it is pushing ahead with the replacement system before any official decision has been made.
According to the MoD response it plans to order a substantial part of the first submarine as well as nuclear reactors for three further submarines despite a coaltion claim that no decision would be made on Trident replacement until 2016.
