Oman looking at more F-16s

F-16 Fighting FalconOn August 3 the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Oman of 18 F-16 Block 50/52 aircraft and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support at an estimated cost of $3.5 billion (€2.7 billion).

The potential order looks set to derail plans by the UK to sell a dozen Eurofighter Typhoons to the country and offset its obligations under the Tranche 3B phase of the production run, which it wants to drop. Saab is also competing with its JAS-39 Gripen for an Omani buy.

The Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) already operates 12 F-16C/D Block 50 aircraft under the FMS sale 'Peace A'sama A'safiya' (Clear Skies).
