No-show by subs slammed

Collins class submarineA navy decision not to send a submarine to the world's largest maritime war game off Hawaii has raised national security concerns.

Three RAN warships, frigates HMAS Newcastle and Warramunga and the amphibious support ship HMAS Kanimbla, were sent to the biennial RIMPAC exercise.

The Australian understands the RAN's fleet fuel ship HMAS Sirius was also to attend but it had to turn back after developing engineroom problems.
