Los Angeles classThe USS Philadelphia (SSN 690) has left the Naval Submarine Base.

The Los Angeles-class submarine headed to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va., to be dismantled, and complete the process of being retired from the Navy fleet.

Once the power plant is defueled, the submarine is officially decommissioned and the remaining crew members are released for other assignments.

A decommissioning ceremony was held at the submarine in Groton on June 25, the 33rd anniversary of its commissioning. The submarine's final commanding officer is Cmdr. Dave Soldow.
