Japan is to put on hold the deployment of additional ground-to-air missile interceptors as the heavily indebted government struggles to balance the budget and rethink its military strategy, a report said on Tuesday.The Defence Ministry had sought 94.4 billion yen ($1.1 billion) to deploy Lockheed Martin (LMT.N) PAC-3 missile interceptors at three air force bases over a five-year period starting in the fiscal year from next April 1, Kyodo news agency said.
But a change of government in September has put defence plans on hold and the ruling coalition agreed on Tuesday to delay the deployment, Kyodo said.
