Destroyer delivers

The AWD is based on the Spanish F100 classAustralia’s $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyer project has achieved a major milestone in the successful delivery of its combat and weapons control system.

A range of US Navy tests have verified the performance of the Air Warfare Destroyer’s radar and missile fire control equipment.

“This system is capable of detecting and defeating multiple hostile aircraft and missiles at ranges in excess of 150 kilometres. With this system deployed, the Air Warfare Destroyer will be able to provide protection for a naval task force against air, surface and submarine threats,” said Defence Material Minister Greg Combet.
