Submarines ordered by Israel still being built

Dolphin class submarineIsrael has not been delivered two German submarines as the military had previously reported, with the two subs still under construction, the military said on Thursday.

“These submarines are still under construction and have not yet been delivered to the Israeli navy,” a statement said.

A military spokesman had said Tuesday that Israel had taken delivery of two German Dolphin-class submarines, called U212s, ordered four years ago.

Israel currently has three German submarines.

  1. Dolphin class and Typ 212 subs are different classes.
I strongly doubt that the Israeli subs are being called "U212s".

Typ 201: ancient German navy subs
Typ 205: Very old German navy subs
Typ 206, 206A: Old German navy subs
    Typ 209: Old export subs
Typ 212, 212A: SSK with AIP for Germany navy
Typ 214: SSK with AIP for Export
    Dolphin: Israel-specific Export sub class
