Photo slideshow: USS Benfold Open House


They came out of curiosity, personal military connections, a fascination with ships, out of a desire to “support the troops,” and to know their neighbors.

Thousands turned out to explore the guided missile destroyer USS Benfold today in a rare ship’s open house at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station.

At some points in the sunny and hot day, it took more than two hours to get through the snaking line and onto the decks of the Benfold.
