Faslane to be home to whole UK submarine fleet

Scotland has been apppointed the sole home of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet in a controversial move that assure jobs for the Clyde yet puts the SNP-led Scottish Government on its political heels.

Seven Trafalgar-class submarines currently based in Devon will be relocated to Faslane Naval Base on the Gare Loch, in Argyll and Bute, with the last of the attack subs leaving Devonport in 2016.

The announcement on Wednesday by Armed Forces Minister Bob Ainsworth included mixed news for people south of the border. Portsmouth Naval Base will be home to the new class of frigates, known as the Future Surface Combatant, and Devenport's role will be reduced.
