Hi-tech power to shake up defence

Kevin RuddKevin Rudd understands that China's massive and sophisticated cyber assault capabilities have long-term implications for Australia's defence.

It's not just Beijing's global quest for business and economic intelligence and continuing appetite for gleaning high-technology secrets from the US and its close allies.

China is looking at cyber capabilities in a strategic way, which in the event of a military conflict could help to neutralise the conventional military superiority long held by the US in the western Pacific.

  1. By 2020 Aussies will be living in "interesting times". Hence Rudd is hedging both ways between the US and China which he is also well familiar.

    "12 new submarines... and 100 F-35 joint strike fighters.." seems way beyond Australia's recession budget.
