Norway to send warship to join EU anti-piracy operation

HNOMS Fridtjof NansenNorway will send a new Nansen-Class frigate to join the EU anti-piracy naval operation Atalanta outside Somalia this summer, according to reports reaching here from Oslo Saturday.

Norwegian participation in this operation will mean direct support to the UN efforts in the area, and will add to Norway's existing political and humanitarian engagement in Somalia, the Norwegian government said in a statement.

Norway is not a member of EU.
