The Yokohama Marine Accident Tribunal will make an unprecedented recommendation to the Maritime Self-Defense Force that it thoroughly implement safety education measures in the wake of last February's collision between the MSDF Aegis-equipped destroyer Atago and a fishing boat, it has been learned. The recommendation is expected to be issued to the MSDF's 3rd Escort Flotilla, to which Atago is attached, at a ruling expected to be issued at the marine accident trial scheduled to be held next week, according to sources.
It would be the first such advisory issued by the marine accident tribunal to the MSDF.
