Iraq wants to buy 26 Bell helicopters

The Pentagon has notified Congress of a series of planned arms and defense-equipment sales to Iraq, including 26 helicopters to be purchased from Bell Helicopter of Fort Worth.

Iraq has requested U.S. approval to buy 26 Bell 407 civil helicopters modified to carry military weapons, including machine guns, rockets and Hellfire missiles, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The 407 is produced by Bell’s Mirabel, Quebec, facility, but includes major components, including drivetrains and rotors, made at Bell facilities in Tarrant County.
