Italian Air Force to extend F-16ADF leasing

As expected, the Italian Air Force (ItAF) confirmed that it was forced to demand a contract extension for the leasing of the 15 LockMart's F-16ADF fighter aircraft equipping the 37th Wings at Trapani-Birgi, Sicily.

The delays in the deliveries and in reaching the full operational capability of the Eurofighter Typhoon seems to leave no alternative, since still too less of these aircraft are in service with the ItAF to assume full responsibility of the national air defence.

Therefore, Italy's Ministry of Defence is planning an 18-month extension of its F-16ADF fighters, a Lockheed Martin official confirmed.
