NATO spy planes may be deployed to PG

A former ISAF commander to Afghanstan, Dieter Warnecke, says NATO AWACS planes now in Germany may be deployed to the Persian Gulf.

In an interview with the German-language Saarbrucker Zeitung, Brigadier General Dieter Warnecke said Thursday that Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) reconnaissance airplanes will likely be sent to an Arab country in the Persian Gulf region.

"The number of AWACS aircraft to be deployed to the region is not yet clear," he continued. "These planes will not monitor ground targets."
