Bulgaria to seek its place under U.S. missile defense shield

Bulgaria will press ahead with its demand to be covered by the U.S. missile defense system in Europe, the Sofia News Agency reported Saturday citing the country's foreign minister.

"Bulgaria is happy that the other NATO member states are ready to consider the possibility of linking the planned facilities in the Czech Republic and Poland to other systems for anti-missile defense," Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin told the state-owned Bulgarian National Radio radio Saturday.

According to Kalfin, the U.S. missile defense shield may be equipped with anti-missile and defense systems that would deal with intermediate and short range missiles to cover Bulgaria as well.
