RAAF says new fighters more than a match

Defence insists the next generation Super Hornet and Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) combat aircraft will be more than a match for the latest Russian-built fighters now entering service in the region.

The assurance follows the release of a report by a defence think tank - Air Power Australia - which warned the RAAF's Super Hornets or Joint Strike Fighters could be outgunned by new Russian-built aircraft which carry far more missiles and fire them in salvos to make a hit more likely.

A defence spokesman said Australian air combat experts had analysed the Super Hornet against all regional opponents.
