The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) would complete its prestigious Rs 1,800 crore Awacs (Airborne Early Warning and Control System) project in the next three years.
“The DRDO is pursuing development of Awacs at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore with a probable date of completion in the year 2011,” the defence minister, Mr A K Antony, told the Lok Sabha today. “Development and manufacture of indigenous radar is included in Awacs programme,” he added.
Mr Antony said the government has not yet assessed the possibilities of marketing Indian technology for surveillance equipment in world markets.
