Russian Ultramodern Radar Operational

A state-of-the-art Russian antimissile radar station is ready to start up operations in Lejtusi, in the region of Leningrad in Saint Petersburg, a military source said on Thursday.

Gen. Nikolai Abroskin, director of the company Spetstroi, which specializes in building strategic facilities, pointed out that construction works were completed, so the station is operational in an experimental way.

The base will be hooked up to the national radio-electronic surveillance network and will detect targets up to 2,585 miles away, the sources added.
