Poland: US Aid Proposal Falls Short

A U.S. proposal to help modernize the Polish military as part of talks on hosting a proposed U.S. missile defense base falls short of Warsaw's expectations, the defense minister said Thursday.

Poland is demanding that Washington help it upgrade its military in exchange for allowing 10 U.S. missile interceptors in the country.

The U.S. government says the planned system, which also would include a radar system in neighboring Czech Republic, is needed to protect its European allies from possible future attacks from Iran.
