Cut upon cut will prove fatal

Plymouth military expert Iain Ballantyne considers key milestones on the journey to closure for Devonport Naval Base and its associated dockyard, an inevitable consequence, he says, of the Government?s failure to promote a strong Royal Navy

A year ago, it really was Portsmouth that looked set to get the chop - and now it is Plymouth with its head on the block.

By going along with Portsmouth's plan to save all three UK naval bases, Plymouth signed its own death warrant.
