The Mirage-2000 multi-role fighters of the Indian Air Force (IAF), six of which are currently taking part in the Dakshin Prahar exercise, are set to be upgraded as fifth generation fighters.
More sophisticated weaponry, avionics and radar systems are planned for the aircraft as part of the upgradation. Once they are fitted out, the Mirages will be better equipped to scale up attack and defence capabilities.
All the Mirages with the IAF are to be upgraded. Engines and airframes of the fighters will remain the same, though. New weaponry planned include Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles.
