Plans to use Gibraltar as Aircraft Carrier Base still on table

Plans for future plans to use Gibraltar as the home base of one of the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers continue to be on the table according to well informed military sources.
The plans which were first tabled several years ago viewed Gibraltar as a possible home base for a carrier fleet as part of the UK’s rapid response operation fleet.
With the UK’s Royal Navy already overstretched, and its operations in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Atlantic and Mediterranean already seeing Gibraltar taking on a new role as a logistics base, MoD sources have indicated that the possibility of extending the use of Gibraltar as a home base continues to be seen as a possible scenario once the new fleet carriers are launched.
