India and Pakistan dialogue on nuclear CBMs inconclusive

India and Pakistan on Friday discussed nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation along with reviewing the implementation of existing agreements on nuclear confidence building measures (CBMs).

Although the talks to promote nuclear CBMs were inconclusive, conformity of views on security issues at the United Nations or the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva were reported.

Both sides issued a joint statement at the end of the daylong meeting saying that the review of existing agreements had yielded satisfaction on their implementation.

These included the agreements on the establishment of a hotline between the two countries’ foreign secretaries, the pre-notification of flight testing of ballistic missiles, and reducing the risk of nuclear accidents.
