New Ecuador president no fan of USAF presence

Rafael CorreaThe Air Force’s job of tracking down cocaine smugglers could take a hit with Monday’s swearing in of a new president for Ecuador.

Rafael Correa, a leftist economist and ally of Venezuela’s anti-U.S. leadership, became Ecuador’s president Monday. Also attending the inauguration ceremony in Quito, Ecuador, was Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

During his campaign, Correa called for ending the Air Force presence in Manta, a city off Ecuador’s Pacific coast.
