Lockheed Wins $8.7M Navy Contract

Virginia-class submarineLockheed Martin Corp. said Monday it won a $8.7 million contract to develop a compact sensor system for a new class of naval attack submarines.

The defense contractor said the new system, to be delivered to the Navy next year for its nuclear-powered Virginia class of submarines, will include an advanced electronic imaging system. The system can be temporarily installed on a submarine and removed when a mission is complete, Lockheed said. It is to be developed at a Lockheed plant in Syracuse, N.Y.
