Alenia Aeronautica has delivered to the Lithuanian Air Force the first of the three C-27J aircrafts ordered by that Baltic State and intended for tactical transport.

The 75 million euro contract concerning this order was signed last June. An official statement informed that the C-27J aircrafts will be used to transport troops and materials, both in Lithuania and abroad, in the framework of military operations regulated by specific NATO deals.

NATO has been a member of NATO since 2004. The remaining two aircrafts will be delivered in 2008 and 2009.

The C-27Js represent the most advanced programme in the last generation of tactical transport aircrafts and will enable the Lithuanian Air Force (which are committed to modernizing their own fleet) to use aircrafts meeting all the standards of interoperability to be complied with by all NATO member states.
